Hello everyone,
For the second time since the creation of this blog, I am sharing with you my love for reading. So, even though this month I read less books than in July, it was still in my opinion important to write this blog article to give you the desire to read. So here are my three books reviews of the month !
A Spoonful of Murder
Title : A Spoonful of murder
Author : Robin Stevens
Publication date : 2018
English Level recommendation : B2
My mark : 5/5
The story :
This book is part of the books serie A murder most unladylike by Robin Stevens. I already wrote an article on it (click here if you want to read it). Daisy, an English girl from aristocracy, and Hazel, a chinese teenager, are two schoolgirls in a boarding school. After a murder in their school, they decided to create the detective society to solve every murder cases that happen. For their sixth murder case, Daisy and Hazel are in Hong Kong because Hazel’s grandfather just died. Daisy is coming with her to help her with this new ordeal. But when she arrived, Hazel, who hadn't come back in her country for two years, doesn’t recognize the family she left when she was only twelve. Her father and his second wife had a new baby : Teddy. The arrival of the first boy in the family, lets Hazel who was the older daughter in a nostalgic feeling. In her mind, she doesn’t belong in Hong Kong anymore. One day, her father asks her to accompany Teddy and his maid Su Li to the doctor. When the little group arrived, the maid and the little boy took the lift, but everything went wrong, Su Li and Teddy never came back. What happened ? Who did this ? Daisy and Hazel must investigate before it is too late !
My opinion :
I took great delight to read this book ! I think it is my favourite from every books in the series, in part because of the consequences that could create this new case. Also I liked the historical context between the two wars and the fact that the reader can immerse himself in the 1930s Honk Kong vibes. Furthermore, I found the story captivating till the end.
I would highly recommend it, for someone who likes murder novel and who wants to improve its English !
Death In The Spotlight
Title : Death In The Spotlight
Author : Robin Stevens
Publication date : 2018
English Level Recommendation : B2
My mark : 4,5/5
The Story :
This time, Daisy and Hazel are back in London after their last case in Hong Kong. Before going back to school, Daisy’s uncle and aunt are inviting her and Hazel to spend their spring break with them. But a few days after their arrival, Uncle Felix and Aunt Lucy have to leave our two teenagers alone because of an issue with their work. So, in order to give the girls an occupation, Aunt Lucy asks her friend who has a theater company if she needs two little actresses for a small role in the famous Shakepeare’s play : Romeo and Juliet. And here is how Daisy and Hazel became actresses in a theater for several weeks. But things are not looking so good in this company, there is tensions between its members. And one day, a cast member is found dead. Again our two detectives are going to investigate this awful new muder !
My opinion :
I liked this book, though I prefered A Spoonful of Murder. The story is well imagined and till the end we can’t expect who is the murderer and who is the victim. This book is thrilling !
L’Astrophysique : l’histoire de l’univers depuis le Big Bang
Astrophysic : the story of the universe since the Big Bang
Title : L’Astrophysique : l’histoire de l’univers depuis le Big Bang
Author : Marc Bousquet
Publication date : 2017
French Level Recommendation : B2+/ C1 or native speaker
My mark : 5/5
The Story :
This book is a bit special in part because it is targeting a very small part of readers. The whole book is on Astrophysic. How the universe was created ? What are black holes ? Why are we still discovering new planets ?
It is covering every part of astrophysic in a vulgarized version of what you should know if you want to have a bit of knowledge on the subject.
My opinion :
Even though I am still reading this book, it is a delight to read it. I am trying to memorize every words the author is using to explain phenomenons that are part of the universe. Although, I think this book is very specialized in a domain and it isn’t targeting a lot of readers. I would highly recommend it for people who want to discover this science and who have a good french level.
I hope you enjoyed reading this article, by writing this I tried to share with you my love for books !
Have a nice week !
