My Booklist of July

Updated: Aug 29, 2020

Hey everyone,

During the year you are to much occupy with your work or your studies to take a few minutes for you and read a book. Reading is a travel throughout the time and world and what is the greatest thing with reading is that you can go wherever and whenever you want without taking a plane or a time machine. So while you are enjoying your holidays, I would highly recommend you to read a book. This is why today, I am giving you my booklist of August. I selected three books in English that could help you to improve your English depending on your level.

The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night-Time

Title : The curious incident of the dog in the Night-Time

Author : Mark Haddon

Publication Date : 2003

English level recommeded : B1

My mark : 3,5/5

Summary

Christpher Boone is a 15 years old teenager who has the Aspeger's syndrome. He doesn't like brown and yellow and loves dog and mathematics. One day, in his street Mrs SHears's dog (a middle-aged woman who is divorced) is killed. Christopher tries to know who is the killer of the dog but he will discover so inimaginable things which are closely or remotly related to him.

My opinion

I find this book really interesting which is in appearance funny but is lifting up some more important matters. Also I liked the author's way of writing even though it was a bit childish for me. This book won plenty of prizes such as the guardian award and the whitebread book of the year.

Mistletoe and murder

Title : Mistletoe and Murder

Author : Robin Stevens

Pubication date : 2016

English Level recommended : B2

My mark : 4,5/5

Summary

In 1935, two young teenage detectives Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are going on Christmas holidays at Cambridge university. They are joining Daisy's brother who is studying at Maudlin College. There, they meet the twin Donald and Charles Melling but on the 24th December Charles is found dead. Without any doubt for Daisy and Hazel, it is murder, But who is the murderer ? The young girls are determined to inverstigate on this case.

My opinion

I really enjoyed reading this book, I love the way Robin Stevens is writing. The plot is well done and until the end we can't predict who is the murderer. For me it is a must read especially if you want to improve your English because the vocabulary that is use is often precise and complex. The story transports you in another world, ancient but with a charming way of living !

The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Tales

Title : The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Tales

Author : Edgar Allan Poe

English Level recommended : B2+/C1

My mark : 3/5

Summary

This volume gather fourteen novels written by the famous writer Edgar Allan Poe. Most of them inspired an atmosphere macabre and very dark with some philisophical allusions. The book is full of darkness and fascinating for the reader.

My opinion

This book is not really the kind of book that I enjoy reading so I am not really able to give you an impartial opinion on this but I am more going to speak about the type of reader Allan Poe is targeting. I would highly recommend this book for people who have a really good level in English almost bilingual. Furthermore, people who are in search of exploring murder's madness and detective stories should like it.

So I hope that you enjoyed reading this article and tell me if you like it !

Have a nice week !
